Continuing Education Credits (CECs) Overview

Healthcare Facility Technicians are a separate and distinct healthcare profession. It requires technicians, like you, to engage in specific competency based assessment and training in order for a healthcare organization to maintain compliance and accreditation. Upon successfully completing your certification, participating and documenting continuing education or retesting every three years is required to maintain your credential.

Continuing Education Credits also demonstrate your commitment to the healthcare facilities profession and will prepare and position you for continued success and advancement.

Qualifying CEC Events, Descriptions, and CEC Limits

Training Events as part of employment competencies
Training delivered within your organization that meet the qualifying content, structure, and time frames and are part of your normal competency based training are acceptable for submission.

Conferences, Workshops, and Events
There are numerous opportunities to attend or bring training to your facility. As long as the training meets the qualifying content, structure, and time frames, these are typically the most accepted and widely used types of training for CECs.

Online Learning
Taking and completing online professional development modules that meet the qualifying content and time frames are acceptable.

College Attendance
By taking and successfully completing healthcare facilities related courses at a college or university, 5 CEC will be credited per semester.

Technical Committee Membership
5 CEC per year can be earned by being on a healthcare facilities related technical committee. Examples would be NFPA, ASHE, ASHRAE, IHFEA, etc.

Presentations or Instruction
For every 1 hour of CEC of delivered instruction or presentation on certification qualifying content, 2 hours of CEC credit will be given.

For each article published in a trade magazine or recognized national website or journal, 5 CEC will be credited.
